I am currently doing research on an ancestor of mine (from Manitoba) who served in the 1885 North West Rebellion.
Private Mathew Cockerill (91st Battalion, 'Winnipeg Light Infantry').
- I am curious if he ever received the North West Medal.
Would anyone be able to find documentation of such?
I know a book exists that lists the recipients of that medal - maybe someone has a copy and can look up my relative:
"Military General Service 1793-1814 (Canadian recipients), Egypt Medal 1882-1889 (Canadian recipients), North West Canada 1885: Index to the medal rolls"
Published in 1975
- Also, where was his battalion stationed? What battle(s) would he have seen?
He served in the 91st battalion led by Col. Scott - specifically, in D Company under command of Captain S. Jackson.
Thanks. I am currently making a tribute document on his life and his service
