    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

Nah, it’s ok. I can let this one slide 😂

    Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels (MCDVs)

Ahh, ok. Thanks for the clarification. Essentially any new builds will have to get bid on and be subject to the NSS requirements. Does that preclude, say Seaspan, from subbing out work (modules etc) to Heddle (or anywhere else, for that matter)?

    Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels (MCDVs)

Of course, that’s the goal, as well as hopefully get the Navy the proper tools. It seems that Heddle and Seaspan are working together on proposals, so that may also be a loophole to get around the 1000t regulation.

    Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels (MCDVs)

I would think it may be quite a bit over a 1000t. I believe the MCDVS are close to 1000t to begin with and @Stoker was saying earlier in the thread that the concept drawings were showing a larger, faster and more capable ship all around.

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

That’s encouraging. I may be one of the few that think the ship will be very useful to the RCN and it’s satisfying to see it exceed expectations.

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

I’m so bad at links, I’m not certain this will work. However, it’s a link to the HDW Facebook page where a post showed HARRY was able to sustain 18+ kts for an “extended period of time”. That’s certainly an interesting achievement past her projected performance numbers.

    Replacing the Subs

Right, but I meant the RCMP takes care of peacekeeping at home if the army was downscaled, if it was required. I’m referring here to if something like Oka or FLQ were to happen again. As far as bleeding with partners and allies, or reducing us to butlers and stewards, I believe I mentioned...

    Replacing the Subs

Of course that makes sense, as well. From that angle, I’d say that we assess what’s needed largely for home defence, be it an enhanced group for Arctic activities and an ABM battery string on all the coasts etc. I guess I’m just questioning the need for a traditional army with a large mechanized...

    Replacing the Subs

I have to say I’d agree here too. The RCN and RCAF are both forces that get used extensively at home AND abroad, while the army is largely expeditionary. By downsizing the army into a specialized force like CSOR (for example) and a training role, maybe most of the rest of the members could be...

    Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels (MCDVs)

No expert, but I’d think you’d at least need a retractable bow thruster in conjunction with your main propulsion, if you didn’t have azipods.

Story of my life, brother. Lol!

Sorry, I posted the image separately. But I think you can see what I’m referring to in this image.

    Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels (MCDVs)

Not the cut out midships, further aft. I see where the RHIB on davits is located, but if you go almost to the stern, there’s a cut out on the bottom deck with what looks like a side scan sonar apparatus. I was just noting it as I’ve mostly seen that setup all the way at the stern as opposed to...

Interesting that cut out on the port side sweep deck. Looks to be for deploying UUV, towed sonar etc.

L Let me just correct myself here, I should have written 30mm. Apologies for the erroneous information.

    Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels (MCDVs)

The drawing looks like something 25-35 mm range. I’d hope for the 35 Marlin that the CSC is supposed to get. At least there’s a better options for ammo (the 25 doesn’t have an air burst shell, for example).

    Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels (MCDVs)

I have to say, the artwork does put me in mind of an evolved MCDV. I’m very interested to see her from the stern to see how that platform is arranged what the differentiation (if any) is between the flight deck and sea can storage.

Having only seen the one side in the concept drawing, I’m imagining that it may have a duplicate RHIB on the other.
